Imagine you are in quarantine, but you are not home and your family is not with you there. You are completely alone, in front of a wall and you spend your days defending it against the invasion of barbarians. There are other 16.000 people like you and each one controls his section of the wall. A particular quarantine, alternating between hard work and moments of relax.
The wall concerned is Hadrian’s Wall. It was built around 122 and 128 AD following the Roman conquest of Britain under the leadership of Emperor Claudius. During this period a lot of architectural works were done and one of them was Hadrian’s Wall. It was built to mark the border in the North side of the Empire.
The life of the Romans was very comfortable: in the rich houses there were baths for the personal care. So, along the wall there were baths and hospitals to treat the wounded soldiers. On each mile there was a tower where the legionaries could sleep during their free moments. Well, a real horizontal town.
In conclusion, all the Roman soldiers in front of that wall lived a very long quarantine between work and spa, but they didn’t choose that life.
